We’ve held our annual bake-off last Friday, raising over £100 for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Ten colleagues plucked up the courage to enter their bakes, which all had to incorporate the theme of our 80th anniversary. Blind judging the entries were company owners Sue Bailey and Michelle Wright, both well-known for their exacting standards. The turnout was very diverse, ranging from sculptured showstoppers to scrumptious chocolate cakes and white chocolate biscuits to apple pies.
For the first time in our bake-off history, there was more than one winner. The overall winner was the gorgeous triple chocolate baked cheesecake from Junior Account Executive Scott Jinks, which was a bit of a surprise, since last year’s peanut butter and jelly cupcakes landed him in last place. A special prize for most creative bake was granted to Senior Account Manager Richard Harris whose oak tree shaped cake certainly had the wow factor.
Sue Bailey comments: “The sheer variety of entries this year took me by surprise; there was even one colleague who entered two cakes to hedge his bets! I’m always amazed at the standard of entries, which seems to get higher every year. It’s a great fun way to bring us all together and raise money for charity”¦ and we get to eat all the entries!’
